What Does The "S" In Success Mean To You?

DIRECTION TO SUCCESS?
If there is a direction to success, I think most people would like to know the way. The other day I was listening to one of our co-founders and he said there is no such thing as a sense of direction. Its just terminology we use for when someone is good at directions. He said his Dad was visiting him and knew how to get around the area better than he did and he has lived there for a few years. What gives someone a better "sense of direction" is usually that person is a very visual person. They see what is around them and remember is better than someone who is more kinetic. Dave said he is more kinetic, meaning he "feels" things rather than "sees" them. What I believe Maxwell Maltz is referring to is that you need a "sense of direction" to your life to achieve success in your life. Do you have goals or a purpose? Do you know where you are going or do you just show up for work every day, go home sleep and show up again at work the next day? Is that a direction to be going in life? I know we have all been told that is what we need to do. Go to college, get a good job, take care of your family, and put away money for your retirement. Then we you become a certain age, you can retire and actually start doing what you want to do with your life. Sound like a good plan to you?
WHAT IS SUCCESS TO YOU?
You ask ten people what success means to them and they will all give you a different answer. It should be that way because we are all unique people. The theme can be similar though. Some people believe that if you have a good job, nice home, nice cars and your kids are at least reasonably happy, you are a success. So, what does the "S" stand for? Some people would say "succeeded" at whatever you sought out to do. Are you a success even if you fail at something? They say the only true failure is not trying at all, so if you try and fail are you still successful? Initially, our youngest son went to California to go to college. He quit college after his first year, moved to LA and has been pursuing an acting career ever since. He has been doing this for just over 5 years. He has had some small parts but nothing that you would consider noteworthy. He has been in some big movies - for a split second as a background actor. He has been around some big stars, again as a background actor. So does that mean he is not a success? He has not succeeded at his goals yet, but I sure give him a lot of credit for just sticking it out and not giving up. Are you a success when you just don't give up? Are you giving up on looking for an online business? Would you like one last crack at it?
WHAT THE "S" IN SUCCESS MEANS TO ME
Super duper. Just kidding. Not really. I think that if you need to remember what success can mean than thinking that it's a sense of direction is a great place to start. You really can't go anywhere unless you know where you want to go. A lot of people have not been taught, or have never heard of setting goals and I think that's why there are a lot of people wandering around aimlessly trying to figure out what life is about. What about a sense of fulfillment? How about a sense of commitment? How about a sense of urgency?

The Power of Hope in Our Every Day Lives

The ability of hope to transform our lives is essential to the human spirit. From the moment we are born we are thrown into a world of challenges - a world that requires us to take leaps of faith - every day. Each leap of faith determines not only ability to survive, but our ability to thrive and live a full and rich life. For us to continue to take those leaps of faith every day - hope is essential.
Yet, each day that hope that we so desperately need gets chipped away. Often times, our hope gets chiseled away by the smallest of things. Those small things turn the wheels of self-doubt, which get our thoughts moving in the wrong direction. Once we begin to move down this direction, our thoughts start getting to us. They begin to eat away at our hopes, dreams, and aspirations. They take the wind from our sails and leave us simply drifting away. Next, we start undermining ourselves and we again move further away from our goals, whatever they may be.
So, how do we regain the power of hope? I have been up against some big challenges in my life. What I have found the recharges by hope is finding my sense of support. I look towards my family and my friends and I surround myself with them. But there is much more. When I want to draw more hope in the darkest of times, I try to create small gestures of love towards those that I care most about. Those gestures of love create small points of light that can help point you in the right direction. I imagine this might seem a bit abstract, but in fact it's not. The act of love generates more love, which simply provides us the support and hope we need to keep on the direction we want to go in.
The power of hope is also real. There is, I believe, nothing illusionary about hope. I know that the word hope can be used by many people - famous or not - but I think the real power of hope occurs in the quiet moments of our lives. These quiet moments when we are alone and need to make important decisions that impact our future is where hope opens doors. Hope can determine whether we continue to float adrift or move forward.
Every day efforts to create gestures of love, surround ourselves with supportive friends and family, and focusing on positive words in our internal dialogue will open the door to generate more hope in our lives.

Key To Success: What You Don't Know Will Kill You

What we don't know kills us. When it comes to success, what we do not know is what keeps us from achieving all our dreams. Not knowing the things that influence your ability as a human being to achieve success and happiness in life is a sure way to spend your life in misery and poverty. A person's subconscious mind is one of such things. This is the part of your mind that controls your reactions to things and the general perceptions you have in life. In fact, it is considered more important than your conscious mind because it "remembers" more accurately and almost perpetually. Therefore, learning how to control it is an important key to success that every human being should learn.
The sad truth is that most people usually leave their subconscious minds at the mercy of the external environment. This is usually dangerous considering the fact that the world is filled with negative thoughts and influences. As a result, most people usually suffer from perpetual failure and unhappiness, not because they are weak or that they do not know how to lead a fulfilling lifestyle, but simply because they do not know how to control their subconscious minds. In short, they fail in life because they do not know that controlling what gets into their heads is an important key to success.
Inner reflection is one of the most effective ways through which you can take control of your subconscious mind. This involves taking some time off from your daily routine. It involves spending time with yourself and simply concentrating on relaxing your mind. Meditation is an effective way of taking time off, and if your mind is prone to wandering to negative thoughts, the use of good meditation videos and music is usually advised.
To be successful, you need to feed your mind with positive messages of success. This also applies for those who want to achieve wholeness, peace and happiness in life. This is done simply by reading positive texts or listening to music that has positive messages. This is important because it is through what we hear and see that our mind, the subconscious part of the mind, is influenced. Listening to negative music or absorbing negative information is only bound to unsettle the peace of mind that any human being has. It is important to avoid any negative thoughts by feeding your mind with positive information. Spending more time with people who have a positive outlook in life will also be helpful so far as keeping your thoughts positive is concerned. It is part of the process of mastering the keys to success.
It is also important to set reasonable goals for yourself, and when you achieve any of your targets, to always remember to pat yourself on the back. This is important in reinforcing self-confidence. It is important when it comes to reinforcing the positive messages that you feed your subconscious mind with. These are the baby steps to getting hold of the important key to success which is learning how to control your subconscious mind. Take action, follow them and become successful.

Quality Content Articles Are Vital To Success

Do you create article content on a regular basis for your blog or website? Check out this article to learn more with regards to article promotion and exactly how crafting top quality article content is vital for your web business.
Writing quality content articles is an excellent strategy to keep folks thinking about your products. Encourage people to subscribe for your updates by connecting with you on social networks or even signing up for your subscriber list. Persuade folks to sign up to these updates by giving beneficial information and limited offers. Write fresh content frequently and always add a link to your website or blog. You'll want to write an effective title and introduction to get individuals to check out your link and study the rest of your write-up whenever sharing written content with social networks. Keeping your content articles under five hundred words is ideal, unless you find your own projected audience is prepared to read as well as share a lot longer content.
Take your time to write good articles. You need to write on topics your target audience would like to read about: steer clear of covering sensitive subjects except if you and your target audience share your point of view. You need to focus on subject areas that are directly related to your business: you could for example share tips relevant to using your product or service or write on problems your prospects can relate with. Put up to 2 links for some other similar content you published or perhaps other content material if it is relevant to supply your own viewers with a lot more facts about a subject.
Avoid using the articles you write to push your goods. It is possible to write about your products occasionally but every write-up really should incorporate practical guidelines as well as helpful information for the readers instead of making use of articles to push your products. You can for example discuss a problem and offer an item as a possible answer, as well as offer other tips. Whenever you speak about a product, make sure you include a link to an item page where your own audience can get more details about this merchandise and purchase it rather than presenting additional information in your article.
Persuade folks to offer you some feedback with regards to your content articles. You could for example end the articles you write by having an open question and encourage people to present their particular opinion within the comments. This will work well if you are using a blog or you talk about the articles you write on social networks. Do your very best to create fun articles once in a while: others will want to share this with their close friends. Include social networking buttons at the bottom of each and every report so that your viewers think about sharing your article on social networking sites. Include buttons pertaining to Facebook and Twitter and learn which social networks are generally preferred among your target audience to perhaps include more buttons.
Apply these suggestions and do more study about article marketing prior to getting started with the marketing campaign. Take note of just what your competitors do: do not write content articles which are too similar and also do your best in making your articles more fun to read.

Success Is Such an Elusive Word

"Success" is a very elusive word, simply because it means many different things to different people. Believe it or not, I've met some of the most successful and high achievers you could imagine in my psychology practice who actually consider themselves "failures" because they've set certain - often lofty - personal goals that weren't met. Think about the most recent presidential campaign. Would you consider Mitt Romney a success or a failure? Some would focus on the fact that he lost the race, without acknowledging the many successes he's had in his life and career. I can't tell you how he views himself, but can only hope he doesn't make this all too common over-generalization.
Thus, the definition of success is truly in "the eye of the beholder." What for one person constitutes having achieved everything they've ever wanted might be seem like a gross underachievement to someone else. One way of defining success might be to set specific and realistic goals and then try your best to reach meet them. Then make sure you confine the labels of success and failure to the goals themselves, never to you as a person! Of course, there's no way to know if you've achieved your goals unless you've clearly defined them in the first place. So that's job one. It's also possible that your personal goals correspond to various eras of your life, from infancy to adulthood. This is a concept I elaborate on in my book Stage Climbing: The Shortest Path to Your Highest Potential. Here are some examples of how some people define success, meant to help you shed some light on what your definition of success might be.
Some might consider their life successful if they've created an arrangement in which everything is provided for them and with no demands or challenges to worry about. However, a pampered and carefree life might feel like the ultimate success to some, but a devastating admission of inadequacy for others. Success could also be defined as a life without any rules or inhibitions, where a person gets whatever he wants whenever he wants it. For instance, a criminal probably considers himself successful to the degree that he gets away with it his crimes. These examples merely illustrate the idea that success can mean very different things to different people.
Individuals who are "rule followers" might consider themselves successful when they are able to stay within certain black-and-white boundaries, without drawing any negative attention to themselves. For them, conforming and behaving as expected and defined by another person, group, political or religious affiliation often means they've they achieved success. Some consider themselves successful when they have achieved affirmation, acceptance, approval, fame, and/or recognition (e.g., winning an award) from others.
For many in our society, success is a result of skillfully keeping roles and relationships in balance and free of conflict, earning a certain amount of money and meeting their obligations. For some, success is the satisfaction obtained when they are able to do what they really want to be doing and which provides the most fulfillment. A very lucrative but mundane career may not feel as successful as having a job that inspires them by tapping their creativity in an area they're passionate about.
Finally, some feel truly successful only when they have made a desired impact on someone or something greater than themselves. This happens when you see others benefit from the help and support you've sent their way. For example, even some of the most financially successful business people define success by the impact they've had on others, such as employees, customers/clients, or the larger world.
So which of these markers best describes how you define success in your life? Contemplating this question is a great jumping off point for setting goals that are in line with your mission and desires. Just remember to assess your degree of achievement against yourself and no one else. In other words, remember that the only valid comparison is between where you are now and where you potentially could be - never between you and someone else. If you feel that you're not where you'd like to be, hopefully the descriptions above can help you visualize what success might look like for you in the coming months, years, or even ultimately. Then do whatever feels right for you to achieve it.

10,000 Hours Is The Main Key To Success

Unless you want to die poor and unless you want to die a frustrated and miserable human being, never fall for the myth that there is a shortcut to success. If there is any shortcut to success, it is that you have to take the long route to success. There is no easy way out in life simply because it is the way life is. It is a universal principle of success that one has to give something to life if they want something back. If you are one of the many that believe that there is an easy way out, which you are waiting to discover, then you might as well face the fact that you are one of the many losers in life. Don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with being a loser in life. This is because you will be making society complete. Anyway, success wouldn't be as sweet as it is if life wasn't full of people who never achieve their goals.
There is nothing complicated about success. The key to success is very simple: work hard! To be successful, you have to make sacrifices. You have to dedicate your time in pursuing what it is that you consider important in life. You have to have the courage to say no to the way that seems easy. You have to be one of the few that take the road that few take in life. You have to have the courage to take the path that people think is hard. There is no other effective key to success in life.
The 10,000 hours principle states that for you to enjoy success in life, you have to have dedicated at least 10,000 hours to the mastery of whichever field, skill or thing you are pursuing. It is a principle that states that to be extraordinary in anything in life; you have to set yourself apart by being different. The most effective way of being different from other people is simply to dedicate more time and attention to pursuing your dream. Anything less than full dedication is bound to subject you to a life that is full of mediocrity. There is no other key to success except dedicating your resources to achieving your dreams.
Therefore, if it is happiness in life that you want, work for it. If it is being rich you think is important, you have to dedicate your life to becoming rich. If it is being a great dad you believe is important, then you have to work on it. Putting in the time and the hours is the only guaranteed key to success. Wishing will not do it. Dreaming will never be enough. Life will not do the magic. Whatever it is in life that you want to be extremely good at; you have to put in the hours. You have to put in the 10,000 hours or else, you will be doomed to a life that most people live: a life ruled by mediocrity!

How To Create An Effective Business Development Strategy

The Business Development Strategy is used to underpin your main Business Plan and essentially it sets out a standard approach for developing new opportunities, either from within existing accounts or by proactively targeting brand new potential accounts and then working to close them.
This document highlights the key issues you should consider prior to compiling your own plan and will hopefully guide you logically through a proven framework.
The key word is 'Strategy', because you are creating a workable and achievable set of objectives in order to exceed your annual target.
Your Starting Point:
The key words are Who? What? Where? When? Which? Why? How?
For example:
Who - are you going to target?
What - do you want to sell them?
Where - are they located?
When - will you approach them?
Which - are the appropriate target personnel?
Why - would they want to meet with you?
How - will you reach them?
If you have conducted regular account reviews with your key accounts during the previous twelve months, you should be aware of any new opportunities that will surface during the next twelve months. You will also, when assessing what percentage of your annual target usually comes from existing accounts, need to review data over the last two or three years. (It is likely that you can apply Pareto i.e. 80% of your business will probably come from existing accounts and in fact 80% of your total revenue will come from just 20% of your customers/clients)
You will be left with a balance - i.e. "20% of my business next year will come from new opportunities" - therefore you can then begin to allocate your selling time accordingly.
Ideal Customer Profiling:
Pro-active business development demands that we create an ideal target at the front end - i.e. an "Ideal Customer Profile." The essential characteristics you will need to consider are:
- Industrial Sector
- Geographical Location (Demographics)
- Size of organizations (Turnover, number of employees etc)
- Financial Trends
- Psychographics - i.e. Philosophical compatibility
Many strategic sales professionals merely profile their best existing clients and try to replicate them - there's nothing wrong with doing this but we should always remember that we are seeking an IDEAL and we can always improve on what we already have.
'New' Opportunities From Within 'Old' Accounts:
Because it costs approximately ten times as much, to first locate and then sell to a new customer as it does an existing one (although these costs are rarely reflected in the cost of sales), it is essential that we fully develop our existing accounts working upwards, downwards and sideways, thus making the most of the (hopefully) excellent reputation we have developed already.
Most corporate accounts have several divisions, departments, sites, even country offices and you must satisfy yourself that you have exhausted every possible avenue. Don't be afraid to ask the question "Who else should I be talking to in your organization"?

Smart Tips For Self Improvement Success

Self improvement is a continuous process. Some of us do it either purposely or in a haphazard manner. Those who are serious about achieving their goals take self improvement seriously. Two items that are of major importance when making self improvements are:
A. CRITICISING YOURSELF!
One major drawback to self improvement is when you begin to criticize yourself. This criticism is ingrained in you through the social behavior in out society. A good example of this would be the time in school when you took an examination and you get criticized on your results. This behavior and feed back pattern starts very early in life. You are continuously compared to others as a way of assessing your abilities and skills by your parents, teachers in peers. This behavior continues in school and workplace as long as you live through personal evaluations.
This so called process of assessing your strengths and weaknesses raises self doubt about your abilities although the intention of it is to promote self development. But, really, it negatively impacts your self development. This leaves you to wonder whether you are in a continuous state of comparison.
All this influence leads you to be hard on yourself by you not taking the right steps to improve yourself or not taking any step at all, just because how difficult society influence has had on your life. You constantly compare yourself to others and get disappointed if you can't qualify. But, are you one of those who beat yourself up because of this?
Keep in mind that being harshly self-critical can be damaging to your psyche and your physical being. If you believe that you are less than who you should be you are setting yourself up for failure. You subconscious mind behaves according to the information you feed it. So, if you want to improve yourself you must believe in yourself and you abilities. Do not let others make you frustrated and unhappy. Everyone, including you have the right ingredients to make progressive self improvements in your life. So, how do you overcome this self defeating feeling?
Simple: B. TAKE STOCK IN YOURSELF. Be conscious of negative influences and cancel them out with positive ones.
1. Look at your strengths. See what you have done well and pat yourself on the back for your accomplishments. Take note of your weaknesses and make corrections. Do not let others judge you. You make your own evaluations of yourself. Find someone who you trust and who knows your ability and take their feedback and if it makes sense work on it.
2. Write down a list of your achievements. Keep a journal if you like. Writing the things you have accomplished in this manner is a way of strengthening you self and implant positive things in your subconscious mind. Your self esteem will skyrocket and you will become highly motivated to achieve more. Facing a challenge will become easier. You will have the enthusiasm and zest to continue. You will be on a roll. Your life will be happier filled with abundance, joy, peace and harmony.
3. Pat yourself on your back when you do something right, either for your self or for someone else. Get in the habit of approving yourself. So, by this idea alone, you will strive to make correct choices in whatever you do, thus allowing your approval scores will be high. Imagine how different you will feel and when you approve yourself on a regular basis? You internal voice of encouragement is so strong you just have to do it and you will see for yourself of the huge positive results that will be the outcome. You friends and acquaintances will be amazed at the new you when you show them the results of your active self improvement measures taken!

The 12 Commandments of Personal Goal Setting

Many people have an idea of what they like to obtain in their lives. But, somehow, they fail to achieve them. Why? Is it because they failed to set clear goals?
Having a general idea on what one wants to achieve is not enough because the human mind does not efficiently work with generalities. If you are not specific about the things you want to get done, the creative part of your brain can not help you in obtaining your true objectives.
Here are the 12 commandments in goal setting.
1. Decide what you really want to achieve. Your goals must be very specific and detailed. If you want more money in the bank, how much would you deposit every month? If you want to look for a different career or job, describe and characterize that new career or job.
2. Set an ideal deadline for each step you take in reaching your goal. Basically, anything you do that is associated with achieving your goals should have a deadline. Your goal is merely a dream or a wish if a date of accomplishment is not set.
3. Figure out if the goals you set are believable to you. You need to feel that the things you have written down can be realized. If you feel that your goals are impossible to accomplish, you will not do anything to turn those goals into reality.
4. Assess yourself. Determine where you are right now. Figure out your current situation in terms of financial, emotional, physical, psychological, and mental. You need to know where you stand at the moment so you will know how far you need to go. Also, you should assess the skills you have, the skills you need to possess, and the skills you need to improve.
5. Determine any potential obstacles you need to overcome. Figure out, list down, and describe the things that may give you a hard time while you are working with your goals. Then think of ways that will help you overcome those hindrances.
6. You need to figure out what knowledge you need to acquire. Find out if you still need to take certain courses, attend classes or training. Do you need to read specific books and other publications, or surf the Internet?
7. Identify all the benefits you can get from achieving your goals. Write down as many rewards and good results as possible. The longer your list, the more inspired you will be in reaching your goals.
8. Figure out if you need to associate with certain groups or organizations. Know if there are groups of people that can help you accomplish your goals then learn how you can become a member.
9. Develop a good and effective action plan. Identify definite steps that you will need to reach your goals. Begin at the realization of your goal and then work backwards.
10. Imagine yourself achieving your goals. Visualize yourself in clear details as if you have accomplished your goals already. If you want to be financially free, picture yourself having no more debts. See yourself like so many times in a day until it becomes an essential piece of your subconscious mind.
11. Take day-to-day actions. Anything that you desire in your life definitely requires actions. You need to take consistent actions every single day.
12. Commit and decide you will never give up. Make a firm decision that whatever happens, you will not quit until you reach your goals.
