Self improvement is a continuous process. Some of us do it either purposely or in a haphazard manner. Those who are serious about achieving their goals take self improvement seriously. Two items that are of major importance when making self improvements are:
A. CRITICISING YOURSELF!
One major drawback to self improvement is when you begin to criticize yourself. This criticism is ingrained in you through the social behavior in out society. A good example of this would be the time in school when you took an examination and you get criticized on your results. This behavior and feed back pattern starts very early in life. You are continuously compared to others as a way of assessing your abilities and skills by your parents, teachers in peers. This behavior continues in school and workplace as long as you live through personal evaluations.
This so called process of assessing your strengths and weaknesses raises self doubt about your abilities although the intention of it is to promote self development. But, really, it negatively impacts your self development. This leaves you to wonder whether you are in a continuous state of comparison.
All this influence leads you to be hard on yourself by you not taking the right steps to improve yourself or not taking any step at all, just because how difficult society influence has had on your life. You constantly compare yourself to others and get disappointed if you can't qualify. But, are you one of those who beat yourself up because of this?
Keep in mind that being harshly self-critical can be damaging to your psyche and your physical being. If you believe that you are less than who you should be you are setting yourself up for failure. You subconscious mind behaves according to the information you feed it. So, if you want to improve yourself you must believe in yourself and you abilities. Do not let others make you frustrated and unhappy. Everyone, including you have the right ingredients to make progressive self improvements in your life. So, how do you overcome this self defeating feeling?
Simple: B. TAKE STOCK IN YOURSELF. Be conscious of negative influences and cancel them out with positive ones.
1. Look at your strengths. See what you have done well and pat yourself on the back for your accomplishments. Take note of your weaknesses and make corrections. Do not let others judge you. You make your own evaluations of yourself. Find someone who you trust and who knows your ability and take their feedback and if it makes sense work on it.
2. Write down a list of your achievements. Keep a journal if you like. Writing the things you have accomplished in this manner is a way of strengthening you self and implant positive things in your subconscious mind. Your self esteem will skyrocket and you will become highly motivated to achieve more. Facing a challenge will become easier. You will have the enthusiasm and zest to continue. You will be on a roll. Your life will be happier filled with abundance, joy, peace and harmony.
3. Pat yourself on your back when you do something right, either for your self or for someone else. Get in the habit of approving yourself. So, by this idea alone, you will strive to make correct choices in whatever you do, thus allowing your approval scores will be high. Imagine how different you will feel and when you approve yourself on a regular basis? You internal voice of encouragement is so strong you just have to do it and you will see for yourself of the huge positive results that will be the outcome. You friends and acquaintances will be amazed at the new you when you show them the results of your active self improvement measures taken!
Now, start today. Get pencil and paper and begin to write about your achievements and build on them. Write your weaknesses and re-structure them for positive outcomes. You will amaze yourself of the fast pace of improvement you will achieve. Your life will be more peaceful and calm. Everyone will want to be aligned with you in what you are doing. You will gain satisfaction and joy in all that you do.
Your personal self development therefore is: Alive and Well!
